Which One Fits
How buyers usually decide
Commuting to downtown Raleigh
Garner borders Raleigh directly, and the north side of town along US-70 is the closest part of either town to downtown.
Commuting to RTP
Garner has Toll NC-540 west from the I-40/I-42 interchange toward Holly Springs, Apex, and Research Triangle Park.
Working at Novo Nordisk or Grifols
Clayton homes near the I-42 and US-70 interchanges have the shortest drive to those plants.
Golf and river communities
Clayton has three golf clubs, and neighborhoods such as Riverwood and Glen Laurel are built around them along the Neuse River.
Larger lots
In Clayton, McAlister Creek has homesites of about an acre. In Garner, most of the established subdivisions I track have typical lots of about a quarter to a third of an acre, and newer townhome communities have much smaller lots.
The Cleveland area between them
Addresses between the two towns along I-40 may carry a Garner or Clayton mailing address while sitting in unincorporated Johnston County. Check the county and town on the tax record before you compare prices.
